Counters MP Kirron Kher for claiming credit of Aadhaar scheme which was launched when Bansal was the city MP.

Pawan Kumar Bansal, former MP, Chandigarh today came down heavily on the BJP MP Kirron Kher on her statement in a section of press in which she has stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches his dream projects from Chandigarh.

Bansal said he was astonished to read that Mrs. Kher has taken the credit for aadhaar (UID)which was launched during his tenure as the Member of Parliament (MP) from Chandigarh. He said it has been the tradition of BJP to stake claim on welfare schemes which were started by the Congress and now being repackaged with a different name and being claimed as initiatives taken by the Modi government.

He cited examples of how the Modi government had changed the names of original schemes started by the Congress led government and had taken credit for it. Some of these are Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account renamed as Jan Dhan Yojna, National Girl Child Day Programs renamed as Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojna, Swavalambam Yojna renamed as Atal Pension Yojna, National Manufacturing Policy renamed as Make in India and National eGovernance Plan renamed as Digital India, to name a few. The list is long and in fact NDA cannot cite a single scheme launched by it to benefit the public; demonetisation being the only exception which rather disrupted the economy and considerably slowed down the growth rate.

"Mrs. Kher has last year also wrongfully blamed me for not being interested in getting additional water for Chandigarh but had taken credit for her role in pursuing the matter, whereas she wasn't even aware that the issue had been taken up by the UPA government, while the NDA government later only created hurdles", he said.
