A day after the name of Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal was officially announced as the Congress candidate for the Lok Sabha elections next month, the party stepped up its election campaign. The padyatra of the party which has been on since last 12 days now wore a different look with Congress leaders and supporters in jubilant mood to celebrate the candidature of Mr. Bansal.
The Padyatra was led by Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC) president B.B. Bahl. The colony residents welcomed the Padyatra by shouting slogans in favour of Pawan Kumar Bansal and assured that they would vote for him as he had taken up several initiatives for their betterment. The residents said it was because of the efforts of Mr Bansal only that three storeys were allowed in colonies with use of ground floor for commercial use.
Several party leaders and supporters were present during the Padyatra who made the colony people aware of the achievements of Congress led government in the centre and also the contribution of Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal.
Residents who came out in large numbers in support of Mr Bansal said they had no other candidate who could do so much for the colonies. "We can't even think of voting for any other candidate when we have seen the work of Mr Bansal in the last 15 years", said a colony resident.
Colony leaders also said they would also work towards spreading awareness about his contribution to encourage people to vote for Congress in the Lok Sabha polls next month. They said they were sure about Mr Bansal getting the ticket again and that they were sure his constituency will make him victorious yet again after having represented in Lok Sabha for four terms since 1991 and for 15 years continuously since 1999.
