Former Union Minister and Local M.P. Pawan Kumar Bansal has demanded that a part of the land received back from Parsvnath Developers at the Rajiv Gandhi Technology Park Habitat Project be used for houses for Chandigarh Employees and Cooperative Group Housing Societies. The Board had got land measuring 123 acre back from Parsvnath Developers in 2015 and recently failed again after repeated attempts to find any bidder for the purpose of a five star hotel and housing projects.
Regarding the lack of response from CHB to his proposal of constructing houses for employees of the Chandigarh, Bansal said "Under the UT Employees Housing Scheme 2008, employees paid huge amount of money (Rs 57 crores) almost a decade back. Chandigarh Housing Board should make flats for them under the Habitat Project besides other proposed commercial and residential projects.
Bansal said that along with auctioning these sites to private developers, Chandigarh Housing Board should provide housing for UT employees. "Building houses for employees and allotment of land to Cooperative Group Housing Societies besides two marriage/banquet halls would go to meet many needs", Bansal added, Standard of construction by existing Cooperative Housing Societies in several sectors is much better than that by CHB anywhere, Bansal further said.
Referring to a recent reaction of Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Employees' Housing Scheme, Bansal pointed out the fact that city BJP president Sanjay Tandon and local MP Kirron Kher had claimed at meetings with employees that the Home Minister had assured them of reviving the scheme, but during a press conference, when asked about the scheme, Rajnath Singh appeared to be totally unaware of it.
