After about a month of tireless campaign by the Congress candidate Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal, it ended with a victory sign from all Congress leaders as it came to an end at 6 pm on Tuesday. With just a day left for the elections, the confident party workers and leaders said it all with a victory sign at the Sector 20 public meeting here today.
Four-time Member of Parliament, Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal who spent his last one month campaigning in each and every corner of the city said, he was confident of his victory, because without giving any reasons, everything was in front of the eyes of Chandigarh people. Mr. Bansal who has also been a union minister has got appreciation for his concern towards the ‘City Beautiful’.
In the last over one month, Mr. Bansal attended around 400 public meetings and Padyatra covering the entire city, its rehabilitated colonies, slums and villages. Having got a rousing welcome wherever he went, tremendous support was seen in all his interactions with the public in the last one month.
The last venue on the last day of campaigning was Sector 20 where Mr. Bansal made promises to be delivered as before. He lambasted the BJP for banking on self-hyped ‘Modi Wave’ which carried no weight in it, except being an example of spending extravagantly on branding him as its Prime Ministerial candidate.
He rightfully and emphatically said Congress had always banked on development and that’s what had always fetched him votes, with margin going up every time. “Even the BJP manifesto is a cut and paste of Congress achievements, so don’t be misled by what they have to say because there isn’t any real wave but one created and inflated to create an aura against a leader like Modi who’s so called Gujarat model stands exposed”, said Mr. Bansal.
Meanwhile, the party workers extensively campaigned in favour of their leader throughout the city today. Just before the last public meeting, a get-together and interaction with a group of doctors and ex-servicemen was kept in Sector 18.
All party leaders in city, villages and colonies were seen making the people aware about the policies of UPA government in the centre and how face of Chandigarh had changed in the last 15 years with Mr. Bansal as the MP.
“When you go out to vote on Thursday, think twice if you want to vote for a performer whom you had seen all these years or outsiders who were there not in city but on big screens in cinemas”, appealed Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal, closing his campaign right on time as per the election commission guidelines.
