Appeals not to fall victim to cheap propaganda by BJP

Congress Lok Sabha candidate from city, Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal today appealed to the people to be careful about the ulterior motives of the BJP to mislead the public. In an election meeting in Sector 31 here, Mr. Bansal appealed to the women party workers to unitedly fight these forces and spread awareness about how UPA government has worked for the betterment of the masses, bringing a complete transformation in their lives.

The election meeting had been organised by Chandigarh Adarsh Women Sabha under the presidentship Ms. Mary Stella George who is also the general secretary of Mahila Congress District 2 of Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC).

Mr. Bansal while addressing the meeting also attended by other senior party leaders said, “The Congress-led government had rolled out a scheme to give women Self Help Groups across 150 backward districts loans at 7 percent”, which he said had been beneficial for the women.

He said a lot other steps taken by the government in the right direction have been widely appreciated as these have been effectively implemented and are not just unmet promises.

Mr. Bansal said Right to Education (RTE) was another policy of the centre which provides for education for all. “There were problems with the Public Distribution System (PDS) which have also been resolved and it’s encouraging to see all have taken benefit of the Aadhaar card, which he said would be essential for availing all benefits of the government schemes.

“The Food Security Bill has covered 66 percent of the total population which includes 50 percent in towns and 75 percent in villages, which provides for subsidized food grains for those falling under a particular income bracket”, he said.

“Coming to Chandigarh, our work speaks for itself. You have seen city growing in the last 15 years of my tenure as MP. Slum rehabilitation is another example of a policy which gave shelter to those without homes”, said Mr. Bansal.

Principal Gurbachan Singh and Ms. Mary Stella George while addressing the gathering and appealed to the women workers to vote for Congress. Among prominent leaders present were Mrs. Lalit Joshi, Vice President, All India Mahila Congress, Mrs. Minakshi Chowdhary, President Mahila Congress Chandigarh, among others.
