In a major setback to the BSP, its party senior vice president, Ram Sumer Maurya, a former councillor and also the covering candidate of Jannat Jahan the BSP Lok Sabha candidate today joined the Congress. The senior party leader joined the Congress at a public meeting held here in Sector 32.
The BSP leader joined the party in the presence of Congress candidate Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal and Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC) president Mr. B.B. Bahl. Former mayor Pardeep Chhabra while announcing the joining said it was a major blow to the BSP, which has lost even its official covering candidate.
Other BSP leaders who joined the Congress along with Maurya were Mohan Lal, Prem Pal Chauhan, Jaswant and Avinash. It was only two days back prominent BSP leader Kunnu alias Jatinder Yadav along with his supporters had joined the Congress.
Mr. Bansal while welcoming the BSP leader said it was a moment of pride for the Congress that such a senior leader has joined the Congress, and it will strengthen the party. Mr. Bahl while welcoming Maurya said it was indeed very encouraging that Maurya had joined the Congress keeping faith in the ideology of the the party.
Other leaders present in the public meeting were Vijay Rana, Pawan Sharma, Jatinder Bhatia among others. Mr. Bansal also addressed a rally in Sector 49 Shivalik Apartments where people welcomed the Congress candidate and thanked him for bringing housing societies in city keeping in mind the needs of a growing city like Chandigarh.
Mr. Bansal in another function by ICAI (The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) here in Sector 22 said, “With the growing number of Chartered Accountants aligned with mushrooming of industry and corporates in Chandigarh and region at large, I advocate the institution of Centre of Excellence for Chartered Accountants fraternity which will eventually helps a lot to meet the demands of this profession”. He was addressing a interactive session with gathering of intellects from CA fraternity, banking industry, traders’ association and resident welfare associations.
Bansal also perceived Chandigarh as the financial hub considering his strategic location, therefore CAs can smell a bright future. Bansal also insured the fraternity about the setting up of Centre of Excellence for CA fraternity in the region.
Organised by ICAI (The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India), the session served a platform for CAs and related professionals to share their concerns in trade and brought them to this in the knowledge of Mr. Bansal.
