Local unit of BSP today got a jolt when its prominent leader Kunnu alias Jatinder Yadav along with his supporters joined the Congress. In a function at Sector 35 Rajiv Gandhi Congress Bhawan he joined the party along with hundreds of his supporters.
Two BJP leaders Salememut and Ramlingam along with their supporters joined the Congress. CTCC President Mr. B.B. Bahl while welcoming the leaders said the party would be strengthened with their joining.
Among those present were Poonam Sharma, H.S. Lucky, Jagat Sharma, Manjit Singh, Pawan Sharma. Harmel Kesari, Pardeep Chhabra, Parpit Brar, Rajiv Moudgil, Praveen Duggal, Vijay Rana, Maninder Dhillon, Bhupiner Singh Badheri among others.
Mr. Pawan Bansal was welcomed in Sector 15 where a public meeting had been organised by Sector 15A Residents Welfare Association, which was largely attended by PU and PEC faculty and supported Bansal for all the development works carried out in the city.
Pawan Bansal while addressing the gathering in Sector 15 said, “When people ask me what are the issues I contest my elections, and I say it’s always development.”
He said BJP leaders often say there has been no development in the city and that no project has come up but what is the definition of project. “We cannot have a thermal power project in city and what is required is development in terms of good facilities, health and education.”
Mr. Bansal said there has been upgrade of city hospitals and dispensaries. He said education has also been his prime focus areas and today PU is the centre of excellence in the country. Today the budget of Chandigarh has also been increased five times, adding social and physical infrastructure of the city has improved and boasts of good parks, roads and has got national acclaim many a time.
The Congress candidate said Chandigarh has been connected to the entire country. He said in the last one year so many trains have been introduced which now connect city to all important pilgrimage destinations. He also spoke about the revamping of the airport, besides city also becoming the financial centre, and today is a symbol of modern resurgent India, as visualised by Jawaharlal Nehru.
Among prominent who were present on the occasion included G.K. Chatrath, H.C. Kalyan, Pardeep Chhabra, Anu Chatrath, Satpal Sharma, Rampal Sharma, Surinder Sharma, Lalit Joshi and Kamaljit Singh Panchhi among others.
Meanwhile the Resident’s Welfare Association of sector 44 has thanked congress nominee and sitting MP from Chandigarh, Pawan Kumar Bansal for taking up their issue and granting funds from his MPLAD Fund for developing parks and other amenities in the sector during his tenure as MP.
Welcoming Pawan Kumar Bansal in sector 44 on Sunday morning, the residents and Ram Gopal Dhoot, the president of Resident’s Welfare Association of sector 44 talked about various developmental works undertaken by Bansal.
Chandigarh Mayor, H.C.Kalyan said that Bansal had taken up issues of the public and was easily accessible. On other hand the candidates of other parties were parachute candidates.
Addressing the residents, Dhoot talked about contribution of funds of Rs. 20 lakhs for development of a park in sector from MPLAD fund of Bansal. The residents said that Bansal had indeed helped in creating better infrastructure for the residents.
Addressing the residents, Bansal reiterated his promise of maintaining the city’s character and improving the amenities for the residents. Bansal said that recently the city had bagged prizes as best in sanitation. He would ensure that educational and health infrastructure was best in Chandigarh as compared to other cities of the country.
Prominent among those who were present included, Asha Thakur, Darshan Garg, Nirmala Anand, Meenakshi Choudhari and Behan Kavita of Brhm Kumari Ashram and Tirlochan Singh.
Later, Pawan Kumar Bansal visited Gobind Pura in Manimajra under his door to door campaign. He interacted with the residents and shopkeepers of the area.
Those who accompanied Bansal included former mayor Surinder Singh, Ashok Kumar, Chitranjan Chanchal and Data Ram Saini.
